Dear Parents & Carers,
Students have settled into well to school routines. Our Kindergarten students have been very involved and engaged in Successful Foundations; play through different 'provocations' or activities.
It is exciting that some COVID-19 will change on Monday 28th. Please see letter below regarding these changes This easing of some restrictions will allow parents onsite for our Parent Teacher Meetings next week. We would love to see all of our parents for their input and parntership at this meeting. Parents can attend meetings at school in a COVID safe manner. If you are able to attend please sign in at the office and please wear masks inside. Meetings will be in your child's classroom.
Next week, Ash Wednesday will mark the beginning of Lent. Lent is the period of six weeks leading up until Easter and the most important festival in the Christian calendar. In Lent, we acknowledge the ways we have turned away from God in our lives and we focus on turning our hearts and minds back towards God. Our Year 5/6 Minnie Vinnies will be running a Pancake morning on Shrove/Pancake Tuesday. Information for this will be sent out on Monday.
One of our provocations for Successful Foundations this week was our "Maps of the World" space. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the world map we have displayed in our classroom and the discussions they while playing with the globe in this space were fantastic to witness. They discussed things such as where they would like to go on holiday, what countries they have heard about before and where they think Australia is located on the map (they eventually recognised Australia on the world map after they realised it was the only country that had a kangaroo, koala or wombat on it!).
The children were offered the opportunity to create their own maps during Successful Foundations each morning. They enjoyed this activity so much and their conversations were so deeply imaginative, I could not miss the opportunity to design and create our own maps of our own special worlds for Visual Arts this week. This also tied in beautifully with Kindergarten's focus sound for the week: M. You can see our amazing creations displayed around the world map in our "Maps of the World" provocations space.
Gifted Education - Virtual Academy
Gifted Education has been implemented as a strategy and focus throughout the Diocese. As part of this commitment, the Diocese has recently developed the Virtual Academy. The Virtual Academy is an innovative, online school program to meet the needs of gifted learners and is led by specialist educators.
The St Joseph’s community is excited that Cooper Allan and Ewan Sheely have been invited to be part of the Virtual Academy’s cohort. There are currently approximately 160 Stage 3 and 4 students from across the Diocese, who have been selected because of their outstanding levels of academic achievement. Cooper and Ewan are the first students to represent our school in the Virtual Academy!
Through participating in this learning environment, they will have the opportunity to access advanced curricula within their regular classroom and collaborate and connect with like-minded peers from across the diocese.
Congratulations boys on this wonderful opportunity!
