Dear Parents & Carers,
I trust all of our families had a lovely holiday. Term 2 has commenced in full swing. This term we welcomed Kiara and Tayla Gibson to Year 1 and Year 2. We trust that Kiara and Tayla and their family will feel very welcome and enjoy their time at St. Joseph's. Congratulations to the Paynter family who recently welcomed a beautiful little girl, Annabell Bridget. Warmest of wishes for the arrival of your baby girl! I would like to thank Mr McCann for filling in as Acting Principal during the last two weeks of Term 1 while I took two weeks of Long Service Leave.
Thank you so much to all of our students who took part in ANZAC March on Monday 25th April. It was fantastic to see so many of our students come along and honour the service of men and women. On Wednesday 27th we held an ANZAC Liturgy at school which was led by Year 6. We were fortunate to be joined by Mr & Mrs Salter and Mr Dallas Heard and all of the Gloucester Soldiers Club. We thank these guests who provide a link to this special day for us.
Happy Mother's Day to all the significant women in our lives. We hope you truly enjoyed a special day on Sunday. You are also very appreciated by our school community.
On Friday, staff held a Professional Development Day. The focus for the day was the Spirituality and Charism of Mary Mackillop. As a Josephite school, the charism, or 'gifts' of our school including faith, trust, community and compassion were a focus and how these are lived out. As a staff and community, we look for the many ways we can live out this charism and gifts in our school.
This week sees Year 3 & 5 participate in NAPLAN. The test will be online this year. NAPLAN assessments are marked externally and once the results are received parents will receive this feedback and can discuss results with during parent teacher interviews.
Enrolments for 2023 are now open. Enrolment packs are available at the office. School tours are also available by appointment. The school will be holding information sessions regarding Kindergarten and the Successful Foundations program in Week 8 - please see notice below. If you know of anyone who may be interested please let them know. We also have availablity in other classes at the moment.
Peace and Best Wishes,

PASTORAL CARE NEWS
What a great start to Term 2 ! The first few weeks have been busy and full of activity and learning.
It is so nice for all of us to experience the love and care within our St Joseph’s family. Every day there are so many ways that students , staff and parents show kindness, support and presence for each other.
Mini Vinnies: Our Mini Vinnies continue to work enthusiastically on projects to assist others in need and to raise funds for some wonderful charities who work to make our world a better place. The MV group has really taken on board their role of service to others. Coming up next week (Friday 20th May) we will be having activities to assist the work of puppy training for Guide Dogs NSW. We are aiming to raise enough money on the day to have the opportunity to name one of the Guide Dog puppies. We are hoping that you contribute. There will be further information and details sent to parents early next week. There will be an “Election Day” style voting on 4 nominated puppy names, along with a chance to buy a “democracy sausage”. This will start at 8.30am and parents are welcome to stop in and vote as well. As well as fundraising, this will be a good opportunity for us to learn a little about the electoral process.
Photo of your Pet: As a part of the Guide Dogs / Election Day on Friday 20th, we will be having a photo display of family pets. We would like you to email us a photo of your pet by Friday 13th May (this Friday) please so that we can create the display in time. Please remember to tell us the name of your pet. Send photos to Jenifer.jensen@mn.catholic.edu.au
Canteen News: Canteen is going smoothly and the Year 5/6 class is doing a great job. As we need to have our order for Hebbys ready by 9;30am, it would be appreciated if you can ensure that your child has their order in by 9.15am. Also, we are reviewing prices and will be sending you an updated Canteen price list within the coming weeks.
GJ’s Activities: Students have been enjoying different activities on Monday and Fridays at Recess time. The GJ’s club provides a chance for students to try various activities and experiences and hopes to build their willingness to try something new. There is no cost and students can choose whether or not they wish to join in.
