- Six Ways Parents Can Help Their Primary Students Learn to Write Well
Dear Parents & Carer's
It has been a lovely start to Term 3. It was nice to see students excited to return to school to see friends and teachers. We trust that all families had a lovely and refreshed break and look forward to the term ahead.
Thankfully we have been able to proceed with our planned excursions with some COVID guidelines in place. Our whole school ASPIRE Excursion took place last week. What a wonderful performance from students from all over the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese. The play was called, 'The Cost of Wishes' and was about being careful for what you wish for!
Our Year 5 & 6 students had a wonderful time at their long awaited excursion to Coffs Coast Adventure Centre. They were joined by students from St. Joseph's Bulahdelah. It was a jam-packed experience at the Adventure Centre with many activities including the Commando course, The Giant Swing, Fencing, Zip-Line, Zorb-Ball, Caneoing and Archery. Year 5 & 6 students were split up in groups with students from other schools and quickly formed friendships. The Adventure Centre was a fantastic camp experience and Miss Jordan and myself were extremely proud of our Year 5/6 students who took advantage of 'having a go' at everything, making friendships, participating in camp responsibilities and overall represented St. Joseph's beautifully. Well done!
Staff have a Pupil Free Day this Friday 12th August. This will be a Professional Development Day and is our last Pupil Free Day before the last day of school in Term 4. Please make other arrangements for students this Friday.
Peace & Best Wishes
Amy Maslen
Principal
What a fantastic day we had at ASPIRE, 'The Cost of Wishes', on Friday 29th July. It was a great performance and opportunity for students to see a live performance at the Civic Theatre. Students from all over the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese participated in the show in Vocal, Drama, Dance or Music ensembles. Students in Year 5 & 6 also have the opportunity to audition for ASPIRE - watch out for notices later in the year in our Newsletter.
Last week, Monday - Wednesday, our Year 5 and 6 students attended the Coff's Coast Adventure Camp in Coff's Harbour with Miss Jordan, Mrs Maslen and students and teacher's from St Jospeh's Bulahdelah. Year 5 and 6 were split into group with different schools and were able to participate in a wide range of activities where students could push themselves to the limits! They made many friendships from other schools and learnt new skills and tested their confdence beyond what they thought possible.
We had a fantastic time at camp - here are some photos of our time away (:
Last Wednesday August 3rd, Lola Forbes Collins, Lillie-Maii Smith and Hamish Macgregor travelled to Newcastle with their families to represent St Joseph's Gloucester as part of the Manning Team. Lola and Hamish competed in the Junior High Jump and Lillie-Maii qualified for the Junior Shot Put. All students achieved excellent results and were wonderful representatives for our school. We are so proud of how well you have performed in your sport this year and congradulate you on reaching such a highly competitive level in School Athletics. Well done Lola, Hamish and Lillie!

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know that we have Book Week coming up in Week 6 this Term.
This is a very exciting week where there will be a day that students will have the opportunity to dress up as their favorite book character. I understand that trying to find or make a costume last minute can be quite stressful! So I just wanted to give everyone plenty of notice. During the week, students will be able to visit the Library where there will be a display of new shortlisted books. At the end of the week they will have the opportunity to purchase books if they wish. There will be more details about this in the coming weeks, as we are hoping parents will be able to come in as well if they wish to help students purchase books and also see a parade of all the fantastic costumes.
Book Week is always a fun and exciting time where everyone is involved. Reading is so important and this is a great way to encourage students to be successful independent readers.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Thanks
Mrs West
