Dear Parents & Carers,
Welcome to Week 5 of Term 3. Students have been busy learning in their classrooms. A walk through each of the classrooms showed students engaged in a range of activities. Year 5/6, with their novel studies on 'The Hobbit' and 'Bridge to Terabithia', have some amazing artworks and representations in their classroom. Year 2/3/4 similarly have some fantastic artworks of 'Mr Percival' from Storm Boy, and K1 have a range of artworks and displays in their room with all aspects of their learning.
Next week is Parent Teacher Interviews. We would love to see parents to discuss students achievements, goals and input on learning.
On Thursday we will be holding our Book Week Parade and books will be able to be purchased at the Library. The parade will commence at 12pm. We will also have a Year 5/6 Assembly on Friday 26th, 9:30am in the hall followed by a Parent Engagement Meeting in the Library. All parents welcome.
Peace and Best Wishes

Religious Education - Religious Literacy
One of our School Improvement Plan goals is to increase the Religious Literacy of our students. Religious Literacy is the knowledge of, and the ability to understand Religion as well as being able to understand ourselves, one another and the world in which we live in. Like all subjects at school is important that the student understand the language and concepts in Religion and to be able to use this language to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. Our Kindergarten and Year 1 students are now been taught from our new curriculum called 'Encountering the Mystery of God'.
This new curriculum is a Pedagogy of Encounter where units of work are based around 5 key inquiry questions. These questions are:
1. What do I think and sense?
2. What do others think and why?
3. What does the Catholic Church believe and why?
4. How and I called into a deeper relationship with others and God?
5. What do I think now and why?
The following is an overview of the Pedagogy of Encounter
PoE_Infographic.pdf
This new curriculum will be rolled out to all grades over the coming years but really allows the students to ask questions, listen to others ideas, learn what and why the Church believes and how they can apply this knowledge in their lives. For the older grades we are focusing on what the essential learning for the students is and how we can improve their Religious Literacy. Like in our Lteracy and Numeracy lessons, we use Learning Intentions and Success Criteria as a guide for students to show what the expected level of knowledge and skills is for each unit of work.
Examples of these can be seen here.
We are hoping that through using the new curriculum and using Learning Intentions and Success Criteria that the ability of all students to demonstrate Religious Literacy will improve throughout the coming years.
