Dear Parents,
Last week Mr McCann, Mrs Clare and myself spent two days with Leadership Teams from Catholic Schools across the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese. The days were aimed at focusing on improving student outcomes and the work we have been doing in Leading Learning Collaboratively (LLC). As a team, we look forward to continue working in this framework to support our students next year.
On Monday we welcomed our Early Birds, (Kindergarten students in 2023) to St. Joseph's. The Early Birds were introduced to the K1 classroom, Mrs Clare and the students in the K1 class. This program will be in place for the following three weeks and the aims are for the new students to have a positive experience and transition to our school environment. In upcoming weeks they will meet their buddies, participate in learning and play and become familiar with the Kindergarten environment. We welcome our new students and new families.
Parent teacher interviews will be held in Week 6. A message will come through via Compass. Please take the opportunity to discuss your child's progress, improvement and areas that teachers are supporting in class. Staff appreciate your support and involvement. The interviews are for ten minutes and will be held in your child's classroom.
Mr welcome Mr Broc Hunt to St. Joseph's for Weeks 4-7. Broc is a practicum student from the University of Newcastle and is working in Year 5/6 during his time with us. We hope Broc enjoys his time with us and look forward to him being part of our school for the next few weeks.
I will taking Long Service Leave durings Weeks 5 & 6. During this time Mr McCann will be Acting Principal and Mr. Crowe, one of our regular teachers will be at school. Thank you to Mr MrCann and staff for their support of our school during the next two weeks.
Well done to our Gloucester Show award winners above.
Peace and Best Wishes

Welcome to our Early Birds for 2022!
K/1 had a wonderful time sharing their classroom and the Outdoor Learning Area with you. Thank you to all of our students for your responsible attitude and caring approach to helping our newest students as they transition to Big School.
On Friday we visited the Gloucester Show and were able to view our show entries and many other aspects of the show including the pavilions, animal nursery, ring events and fire engine talk. A number of students received awards for their show entries. Well done! Thank you to Mrs Webeck for assisting students prepare show entries, Mrs Middlebrook and Mrs Shultz for organising our displays and all teachers for organising this in class.
Religious Education - Socktober
What an amazing morning we had for Socktober. The students were amazing in their enthusiasm in learning about and raising money for Catholic Missions to send to under priveldged people in Ethiopia. We were lucky enough to have David Mcgovern (Diocesan Director of Catholic Missions) come and join us for our Liturgy and Socktober activities. Our morning began with a Liturgy to further understand who and why we were raising money. The students then worked in small groups to make some amazing homemade soccer balls called sockballs. It was incredible watching the students working so well together in creating some fantastic soccer balls. We then had a competition to see which sockball rolled the furthest (this was won by Rory, Harry, Hamish and Elliot), a coin toss to win a Socktober Soccerball (won by Ewan), a lolly guessing competition (won by Deacon), and a pentalty goal shoot out.
It was such a fun and worthwhile morning to raise money for some very needy people. We were all so very proud of the students during the morning. They are an amzing bunch of thoughtful and caring students. Nearly $150 was raised for Catholic Missions. Well done everyone.
