Choir
All students K to 6 are members of the school choir. We perform in the Taree and District Eisteddfod each year. The students sing at Parish Masses, at the local Nursing Home, at school assemblies and at other community events as required.
Public Speaking
Each year, students in K to 6 participate in the Manning Region Public Speaking Competition with the chance of representing the region at the Diocesan final in Newcastle. Students in K to 2 present a prepared speech and students in Years 3 to 6 present a prepared and impromptu speech. Students proceed to the regional competition after competing in the school-based competition early in Term 3.
Gifted Education
Students in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to participate in the Manning Region Gifted Education initiatives in CAPA (Creative and Practical Arts) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). Students who show potential in these areas work with like-minded students from Holy Name Forster and St Joseph’s Primary Schools in Taree, Wingham and Bulahdelah. Identified students work with staff from St Clare’s High School in Taree and utilise the video conferencing facility available in all Catholic Schools in the Diocese to keep abreast of their learning. Mrs Donna-Maree Watt (Yrs 4/5/6 Teacher) from St Joseph’s Gloucester proudly leads the STEAM initiative in the Manning region. All students in K to 6 at St Joseph’s Gloucester, have the opportunity to take part in ROBOTICS activities on a regular basis.
School Musical
Alternate years at the end of Term 3, St Joseph’s Primary School, Gloucester, performs a school musical. Every students from K to 6 is involved and the production is performed in the school hall.
Spelling Bee
Each year, the students participate in a K to 6 Spelling Bee. Students compete against each other with the same spelling ability. This is a fun learning event and winners in each category take home a trophy as a momento of their wonderful achievement.
Vegetable Gardens and Chickens
The school has their own vegetable gardens and three chickens – Olive, Henny Penny and Dixie.
Students assist staff and parents/carers to care for the gardens and the chickens. Fresh produce and eggs are used in the preparation of Shared Table each Monday. Scraps are composted or fed to the chooks.
Giant Chess
The school has a giant chess set donated by St Clare’s High School in Taree which all students enjoy playing at lunchtime.
Lunch Time Activities
Lunch time activities are organised by our Pastoral Care Worker and provide alternative activities for students to participate in during lunchtime. Some activities include cooking, craft and knitting.
Mini Vinnies
Students in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in Mini Vinnies. Students undertake servant leadership activities to benefit those less fortunate than themselves. Mini Vinnies is closely aligned to the work of the St Vincent DePaul Society. Mini Vinnies is coordinated by the school’s Pastoral Care Worker.
